Mongolian Gobi Desert is one of the top travel destinations throughout the world with its unique vast beautiful landscape. The region is also home to many endemic plant species and endangered animals including the Gobi bear Mazaalai (Ursus arctos gobiensis), snow leopard, mountain sheep, ibex, and Mongolian wild ass (Equus hemionus). Once there, you can ride a two-humped camel, and explore dinosaur bone yards, climb up to sand dunes and acquaint the unique nomadic life.

Day 1. Arrival in Ulaanbaatar city
Upon arrival in Ulaanbaatar city, our driver and English speaking guide will pick you up from the airport and transfer you to the hotel in downtown. After you settled in, we will start city tour by visiting Sukhbaatar’s square. The Square is in the center of Ulaanbaatar, in front of the Mongolian Parliament House. Across from the central square, we will visit the National Museum of Mongolia, the biggest museum with over 54000 exhibitions from prehistoric period till 21st century. Our next stop will be Zaisan Hill Memorial. This hill provides a panoramic view of Ulaanbaatar. Overnight at the hotel.
Day 2. Flight to the Gobi
After breakfast at the hotel, we will move to the airport for domestic flight to Dalanzadgad, a provincial town of southern Mongolia. Upon arrival in Dalanzadgad, we will head to ‘Yolyn Am Valley’, a jewel in the middle of the Mongolian Gobi. The valley has a narrow canyon with a stream that flows through the Zuun Saikhan Mountain. The sheer rock walls stand 200 m, and the canyon has stunning green meadows with a thick glacier layer that is deeply set between the walls. Then we will trek along the canyon and may get a glimpse of rarely seen Argali – a mountain sheep, Ibex – wild goat and lammergeier. Overnight in a ger camp.
Day 3. Drive to Khongor sand dunes
This morning, we will have a breakfast at the camp, and continue our journey to ‘Khongor Sand Dunes’. En route to the sand dunes, you will enjoy the stunning backdrop as you drive around 5 hours west, towards the vast Gobi landscape. Witness the remarkable desert landscape, with its rich wildlife and lovely plants. We will visit to a camel breeding family, and familiarize with their nomadic lifestyle. Camel riding is available on request. Overnight in a ger camp.
Day 4. Bayanzag, the flaming cliffs
On this day, we will pack up and head to Bayanzag, better known as the “Flaming Cliffs”. Place where the first dinosaur egg found in 1920s. The famous “Flaming Cliffs” were named by Roy Chapman Andrews, an American explorer who visited Mongolia in the 1920s. The striking red Bayanzag cliffs have dinosaur fossils, eggs and bones all over the place and are neighbored by saxaul tree forest. Overnight in a ger camp near the clay cliffs.
Day 5. Explore Ongy Monastery ruin
Depart to Ongi monastery ruin, a journey of approximately 5 hours driving. Upon arrival, you will explore the ruin of the Buddhist monastery, which was a bustling pilgrimage area for Buddhists in 18-19th century, before it destroyed by communists. Also, you can relax on the shore of Ongi river- one of the longest river in Mongolia, which is 435 km in length and flows into Ulaan Nuur. Overnight in a ger camp.
Day 6. Drive to Kharkhorin
Our team will head to Kharkhorin city. The city had existed as a capital for world’s largest contiguous empire for over 60 years. In Kharkhorin, we will explore a museum, which has many exhibitions and show world nomads’ history from brutal hunter gatherers till’ most powerful and consummate empire throughout the world. Overnight in a ger camp.
Day 7. Drive back to Ulaanbaatar city
After breakfast, we will visit Erdenezuu monastery, the biggest Buddhist Monastery Museum in Mongolia. Which has many expensive and precious Buddhist art works from 17th century including mold deities of gold and silver, thankas, split paintings and manuscripts. After the monastery museum, we will head for a long drive back to Ulaanbaatar city. We will arrive in Ulaanbaatar city in the afternoon, and you can relax in your hotel until dinner. In the evening, our farewell dinner will take place in a restaurant. Overnight in a hotel.
Day 8. Departure
Today is the end of the Gobi discovery tour. Our team will transfer you to the airport in time for your international flight. Have a nice trip back to home and thank you for choosing ELT Mongolian tours.
